Applying for medicine in NSW is a game of high-stakes strategy. Many guides recycle outdated information, leading students to apply for programs where they have zero mathematical chance of an offer. If you want a seat in 2026, you need to look past the minimums and understand the actual selection mechanics.
UNSW Medicine (Sydney)
UNSW is one of the few programs that maintains a true "three-pillar" selection process. Unlike other universities that treat the ATAR as a simple hurdle, UNSW uses it as a significant differentiator in your final ranking.

The USyd Double Degree Medicine Program (DDMP) is effectively the "99.95 club." If you don't hit that number, this pathway is closed, with very few exceptions.

Selection
After the interview (Multiple Skills Assessment), the final offer is determined solely by your performance in the interview and the Personal Qualities Assessment (PQA). ATAR does not factor in.
The Bottom Line
Don't waste your UAC preferences. If you have a 97 ATAR and a 99th percentile UCAT, your energy should be on JMP and WSU. If you have a 99.90 ATAR but a mediocre UCAT, UNSW is your only realistic shot in NSW.
