    Program Overview

    How the Pathway Works

Melbourne's pathway is unique: there is no direct undergraduate medical degree. Instead, students complete a 3-year undergraduate degree at Melbourne, then progress to the 4-year Doctor of Medicine — making it a 7-year total commitment.

The interview is conducted during the 2nd or 3rd year of your undergraduate degree and is pass/fail only (5 of 8 stations) — it is not competitively ranked. If you pass, you're guaranteed your place.

It is widely recommended to choose an "easy" undergraduate degree to maintain the required WAM of 75 (for FFP students).

    Unique Features

    • No UCAT required — pathway based on ATAR + WAM + interview
    • Guaranteed FFP place with 99.00-99.85 ATAR (subject to WAM 75 + interview pass)
    • Guaranteed CSP place with 99.90+ ATAR (subject to undergraduate completion)
    • Interview conducted in 2nd or 3rd year of undergraduate degree
    • Interview is pass/fail (5 of 8 stations) — not competitively ranked
    • 350-400 total places — one of Australia's largest medical programs
    • Recommended to choose an 'easy' undergrad to maintain high WAM

    The Melbourne Medicine Interview

    MMI
    8 stations (pass 5 of 8 required)

A circuit of short, independent stations. You read a prompt, respond for a fixed time, then move to a new assessor and an unrelated scenario.

We have not verified Melbourne's interview dates for the current cycle. Undergraduate interviews across Australia generally run from November to mid-January, with invitations from mid-October — but check Melbourne's own admissions page for your year rather than relying on that range.

How to prepare for a MMI interview

    • Your worst station matters more than your best. Assessors do not confer, and scores are aggregated across the circuit, so consistency beats brilliance.
    • Practise finishing slightly early rather than being cut off. An assessor can only score what they actually hear.
    • Drill the reset between stations. Carrying frustration from a bad station into the next one turns one weak score into three.
    • Structure beats content at this length. Signpost your answer — say how many points you will make, then make them.
